History in Batavia: Frankie Hackl Breaks Indoor 1600m School Record

Last Friday, the Titans competed at two different meets. Most of the team competed at home, while 5 runners competed at Batavia Distance Madness. In addition, many Track and Field alumni made their appearance, as well as prior head coach, Kurt Hasenstein, who helped run the home meet!

The Titans had many successful races, both in the field house and in Batavia, making the competition exciting to watch! At Batavia Distance Madness, all 5 Titans ran a personal record or a season best. Jack Lyons started off the day with a 9:50 3200, beating his season record by 8 seconds. Next, Junior Lopez broke the sub-2 barrier in the 800, winning his heat in a blazing 1:59. Soon after, Grant Miller ran a 2:07, improving his personal record by one second. In the 1600, Ryan Taylor battled with a sprained elbow, running a 4:52 in competitive competition. Lastly, Frankie Hackl broke the Indoor 1600m School Record, running an impressive 4:23.99. In addition, Hackl won his heat in an exciting finish.

At the home meet, the Titans had many first place finishes. On the distance side, Owen Wu won the 800 with a 2:13, followed by Tyler Moon’s 2:14. In addition, Connor Farrington broke his personal record by 4 seconds. In the 1600, Owen Cummings won by a wide margin with a 4:47. Owen Wu and Mateo Barillas followed with 4:56 and 5:01 respectively. Special shoutout goes to Matthew McGargill, Connor Megley, and Tate McDermott who all ran personal records by several seconds.

Freshman Conference takes place in the fieldhouse tomorrow, and Varisty and Frosh/Soph Conference is on Friday at Evanston.
